Community Foundation Holds Annual Board Meeting

The Community Foundation for Cloud County (CFCC) Board of Governors met at the Concordia Chamber of Commerce meeting room at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 23, 2020, with the meeting also being on ZOOM. 

The executive director presented the Greater Salina Community Foundation (GSCF) June 30, 2020,  Dash Board , financial statements and the  Investment Performance Figures for CFCC. Steimel noted that the earnings rate for the quarter ending June 30, 2020 was 16.94%, the annual rate was 3.80%  and the five-year absolute rate was 37.152% or an annualized rate of 6.52%.     

Also presented and reviewed was the CFCC Fund Summary report for June 30, 2020. This report showed over $55,000 additional investments  in the Foundation, over $1,466,000 investment income and over $168,000 in grants awarded for the quarter then ended.  The community’s total  fund investment in the Community Foundation for Cloud County is over  $8,448,000 as of June   30,  2020.

The Board reviewed and approved the Cloud County Administrative Fund Summary as of June 30, 2020.

Steimel recognized Harley Adams for serving  six years and nine months on the Board and Mari Detrixhe for serving four years on the Board.  Thanks to both of them for their devotion and service to the Foundation.

The Board unanimously elected Kim Wiesner, Tammera Marrs, Jessie Pounds, Monte Wentz and Keith Portenier to a three-year term on the Board and Megan Nobert  to a two-year term on the Board.  Monte Wentz was elected Chairman of the Board of Governors and Tammera Marrs was elected as Vice-Chairman. These two positions are for a two-year term.   Lorene Steimel, as Secretary, and Jeremy Will as treasurer, have a second year to go on their two year term.  The Board unanimously appointed Bob Steimel as the Foundation’s Executive Director for another year. 

The Board reviewed the Grant Committee minutes for June 12, and May 13, 2020 and the Grant  History for the 2019-2020 year which shows total grants awarded for the year then ending of $503,899.  After discussions regarding the grants awarded or not awarded the  Board unanimously ratified or approved the following grants awarded during the quarter ending June 30, 2020:

            COVID grants:   

Impact Fund for Cloud County –  a $250 grant to the City of Concordia for baseball insurance.       

Seize the  Moment Fund – a $307 grant to the Cloud County Health Center, the Cloud County Health Department and the Cloud County Emergency Program for PPE;  a $250 grant to the City of Concordia for baseball insurance; a $367 grant to Cloud County for “Caring for Cloud County’ administrative costs 

Dane G. Hansen Community Grant Fund – a $5,000 grant to the Cloud County Historical Society to assist with operating costs; a $5,000 grant to the Miltonvale Educations Community Foundation to assist the needy in Miltonvale;  a $5,000 grant to the Cloud County Resource Center for the food bank;  a $7,500 grant to the Sr. of St. Joseph for Helping Hands; a $8,500 grant to Cloud County to assist the Cloud County Fair Board with the costs of the 4-H and FFA award ribbons and cost of judges for the Cloud County Fair; a $5,000 grant to the Brown Grand theatre for operating costs.

Economic Development Fund – a $598 grant   to Cloud County for “Caring for Cloud County” administrative costs.

Cloud County Public Health Fund – a $1,880 grantto the Cloud County Health Center, the Cloud County Health Department and the Cloud County Emergency Program for PPE.

Kansas Health Foundation Fund for Cloud County – a $4,813 grant to the Cloud County Health Center, the Cloud County Health Department and the Cloud County Emergency Program for PPE.

             Monthly grant cycle:

Impact Fund for Cloud County –  a$10,000 grant to the Brown Grand Opera House to assist with seating project; a $10,000 grant to the Cloud County Health Center toward the new hospital campaign.

Seize the  Moment Fund – a $500 grant to Smoky Hill public television for books for Cloud County preschool students.

Dane G. Hansen Community Grant Fund – a $2,000 grant to the Brown Grand Opera House to assist with seating project; a $1,000 grant to Smoky hill public television for books for Cloud County preschool students; a $3,400 grant to Neighborhood Initiative Inc. for  ‘Reading with Friends’ books.

Robert L. and Lorene M. Steimel Donor Advised fund – a $3,000 grant to the Cloud County Health Center toward the new hospital campaign.

Blosser Foundation Donor advised Fund – a $10,000 grant to the Cloud County Health Center toward the new hospital campaign; three $1,000 grants the city of Concordia  Airport Advisory Board for installments on the Blosser Aviation scholarship.

CF Sunshine Foundation Fund – a $2,398 grant to the National Orphan Train Complex toward the Mildred Tracy statue.

Gelvin-Ingersoll Medical Education Fund – a $2,000 grant to the Cloud County Health Center toward the new hospital campaign.

Lorene M. Fraser Designated Fund –  a $583 grant to the Our Lady of Perpetual Help (OLPH)  parish for  support of the weekly bulletin.

Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish Endowed Memorial Fund – a $1,287 grant to OLPH  for operations.; Margaret Babcock Morgan and Everett C. Morgan Family Trust Fund – a $312 grant to BIG Brothers/Big Sisters for operations and a $312 grant to NCK CASA for operations.

St. Concordia Cemetery Fund –  a $864 grant to OLPH to support the St. Concordia Cemetery.

Trevor Lee Gennettte Memorial Scholarship Fund –   a $697 grant to thr USD # 333 to support a football scholarship.

“Swede” & Larry Nelson Baseball Scholarship Designated Fund – a $505 grants to Cloud County Community College to support a baseball scholarship. 

M. Lavon and Jack Brosseau Endowment Fund – a $4,346 grant to OLPH  parish for operations.

Teens for Christ Ministry Fund – a $570 grant to Teens for Christ for operations.

Concordia Wesleyan Church Benevolent Fund – a $894 grant to the Concordia Wesleyan Church as their annual distribution.

Doug Moore Wrestling Scholarship Fund –a $984 grant to USD # 333 for a wrestling scholarship.

Freda L. Radcliff Fund – a $414 grant to the Frank Carlson Library for operations.

Catholic Youth Education Fund – a $ 9,103 grant to the Notre Dame Scholarship Trust for 2020 scholarships.

Cloud County Foundation for Health Care –a $4,359 grant to the Cloud County Health Center toward the new hospital campaign.

Frank Carlson Library Fund –a $609 grant to the Frank Carlson Library Fund – organization portion.

Big Brothers/Big Sisters –a $2,900 grant to Big Brothers/Big Sisters for the annual withdrawal.

Cloud County Historical Society Fund – a $1,464 grant to the Cloud County Historical Society Fund – organization portion.

Concordia Lutheran Church Foundation Fund –  a $13,719  grant to the Concordia Lutheran Church.

Concordia Senior Citizens Center Fund  – a $154 grant to the Concordia Senior Citizens Center Fund – organization portion.

Broadway Plaza Operating Fund – a 260 grant to the Broadway Plaza Operating Fund – organization portion.

Cloud County 4-H Youth Fund – a $266 grant   to the Cloud County 4-H Youth Fund – organization portion.

The Baptist Church of Concordia – a $466 grant to the Baptist Church of Concordia for operations.
